AUR Apparel

As Active You Want To Be

By David Theoret

More and more golf apparel companies are making a conscious effort to become eco-friendly. I realize that eco-friendliness is not a word often associated with apparel (if it is a word), but more and more manufacturers are incorporating it into their garments.

Such is the case with AUR and their EcoSmart fabric. EcoSmart is a fabric made from recycled polyester yarn which, in turn, is made from plastic post-consumer based products. Some of the key benefits of using this eco-friendly yarn is that it provides good moisture management and anti-odor properties, gives added UV protection, is fast drying and easy to care for. Did I mention that it is good for the environment as well? EcoSmart fabric reduces fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gases when you compare it to traditional polyester production.

Another interesting product in the AUR collection is their S.Cafe line. S.Cafe uses a patented process which transfers coffee grounds into yarn which is then used to produce polos. Since most coffee grounds end up in the city dump, contributing to the overall solid waste management problem, producing a garment with S.Cafe products is helping to ease landfill concerns.

The third line from AUR is their CarboCool fabric. CarboCool contains a blend of polyester and bamboo charcoal. You will notice that the inside of CarboCool products have a grey tint - that is the carbonized bamboo. This fabric provides exceptional moisture wicking and fast drying for comfort. Bamboo cloth is four times more absorbent than cotton and the porous qualities of bamboo fiber give CarboCool garments extra breathability and added UV protection.

Bamboo fiber also contains a naturally occurring anti-microbial agent which helps keep you odor free. And it's environmentally friendly because bamboo is one of the world's most sustainable resources.

I received two golf polos from AUR to review; The AUR Dri-Max Classic Pique Polo Flex and the AUR Classic Polyester Pique Polo. Both fit true to size and provide ample room to make a good, solid golf swing. The colors are vibrant in both the solid colors and striped styles. Both shirts are soft to the touch and very lightweight. The synthetic fibers used in making these garments are very long lasting. Both men's and women's polos are available in 14 different colors. Professional golfer Charlie Beljan, who won the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic in 2012, sports the AUR Classic Polyester Pique polo in tournaments.

Nothing fancy about the labeling on either shirt either; you're not going to look like a walking billboard. Just a simple label on the inside where you would expect it and either an embroidered AUR or small metal logo on the right sleeve - simple and classy.

The price is right on these polos too. They can be picked up online for as little as $14.00; a very good price for a polo of this quality. For more information on AUR, visit their website at www.AURgolf.com.

About: David Theoret

David Theoret David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
