When I think about Puma golf apparel, what comes to mind is an orange-clad Ricky Fowler on a Sunday afternoon.. The bright orange hat with the big cat and flat brim; not the way I want my hat to look but they aren't paying me big dollars to wear it! Google Puma Golf and one of the sections that comes up on their website is Ricky's Picks.

Bright colors are in these days and Puma is one of the companies that sets the benchmark for color. Reds, blues, yellows, greens; just about every shade of every color you can think of. And not just solid colors, were talking stripes and graphics too. Both shirts and shorts.

Puma is a German-based company; formed when the two brothers that owned Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik split up. One formed Adidas, the other started Puma. The rivalry between the two companies that started in the 1940's continues to this day.

I was first exposed to Puma back in the 70's. As a kid growing up in London, Ontario Canada, most of us wore either Puma or Adidas shoes. When I moved to the US in 1978, the brand seemed to fade away and athletic footwear companies such as Nike and New Balance began to surface. It wasn't until a few years ago that I saw Ricky Fowler wearing a pair of shoes with the familiar "Formstripe" that led me to believe Puma was on its way back.

Both the men's and women's line of apparel feature the same moisture-wicking technology that is so prevalent in the golf garment industry today. Not only does it take moisture away from the body, it helps keep you cool as well. Both the men's and women's polos and shorts fit true to size and their color selection is second to none.

Puma polos are 100% polyester and feature their dryCELL moisture wicking properties that keep the player dry and comfortable. Three and four-button plackets are available depending on the style and an embroidered PUMA Cat logo is proudly displayed on the left chest.

Shorts are a blend of polyester and spandex with the same dryCELL technology found in the polos. They feature an 11" inseam, single button closure and zip fly as well as front pockets that have been deepened for added security and a "coin catcher" inside the pocket. There is an 18-Hole logo at the right hip and the famous PUMA cat logo embroidered on the left leg.

My wife and I both are enamored by the Puma clothing we have. The colors are bright but not overpowering. The clothing fits true to size, both shorts and tops/polos. The moisture-wicking fabric keeps you dry, wicking moisture away from the body as quickly as it appears. The sleeves are a little shorter and the fit is more athletic than most apparel companies. Not a bad thing, unless you've got something to hide!

With the cat logo, other golfers know exactly what you're wearing; of course they've probably seen Ricky in it if they watch golf on TV! Everything that Puma sent for review revealed high quality and attention to detail. The color choice is vast as they have held nothing back.
