Oakley Golf Apparel Review

Style and Quality Priced Right

By David Theoret

Believe it or not, Oakley's roots go back to motorcycle grips. In 1975, founder James Jannard got his start by selling what he called "The Oakley Grip." What separated these grips from their competition was a patented material Jannard created and called "unobtanium. This material is still used in the earsocks on Oakley's quality glasses and many of the nose pieces. He then went on to produce many different products for BMX and motrocrossers.

In 1980, Jannard relaesed the O-Frame goggles with the legendary Oakley logo on the strap. In 1983 the company began selling ski goggles and in 1984, Oakley released its first sunglasses: The Factory Pilot Eyeshades. With that the eyewear industry was about to be turned upside down..

Most of Oakley's technological advancements and designs were developed with a lot of input from athletes including extensive testing in the field. The same can be said for their golf apparel. Taking advice and recommendations from such PGA professionals past and present as Annika Sorenstam, David Duval, Rory McIlroy, and Bubba Watson. Oakley's golf apparel uses patent technology that allow golfers to stay cool in hot weather when others are becoming overheated.

Golf polos and trousers are engineered to keep sweat and odor to a minimum, while stretching enough to give players freedom of movement. With enough styles and colors and the right pricing (usually between $65 and $75), Oakley golf apparel is a can't miss. Just like their sunglasses were a huge hit in the eyewear industry, their golf apparel is sure to be a hit as well. Price won't be a turnoff; their right in the mix at $65 - $75. A wide variety of styles and colors will go a long way in gaining market share too.

ASHLAND POLO
The Ashland Polo gives golfers the fit and feel they need in order to pitch, putt and drive the ball with confidence. Oakley's patented O Hydrolix fabric provides golfers with the most comfort possible by wicking sweat away from the skin and delivering it to the outer surface where it evaporates quickly. This helps protect golfers from overheating in the hot Florida sun while delivering a high amount of UV protection. The seams in Oakley's golf polos are engineered without thread, removing and chance of abrasion or chafing during the golf swing. The 92% polyester, 8% spandex material is specially treated to help minimize odors and destroy the bacteria that creates them.

ANDREWS CAMO POLO
The Andrews Camo Polo offers a tailored fit and crisscross back yoke and uses the same fast-drying O Hydrolix" fabric as the Ashland Polo, pulling sweat away from the body and delivering it to the outside layer where it can quickly evaporate, providing golfers with supreme moisture management and a comfortable fit. This UV-shielding fabric provides sun protection through your round and is treated with an anti-bacterial agent helping reduce odor causing bacteria.
This shirt features camo trim on the placket and chest pocket giving it a unique look. The material is a blend of 63% Cotton, 34% Polyester, 3% Lycra.

TAKE SHORT 3.0 12
The same quick-drying, four-way stretch fabric that manages moisture and enhances your range of motion in golf polos is used in Oakley's Take Shorts 3.0 12. By the way, the 12 refers to the inseam length of 12 inches. The O Hydrolix technology also offers the same UV protection as the polos, keep harmful rays at bay when the sun beats down. and an embroidered ellipse logo adds modern athletic style to these performance shorts. The fabric is 87% polyester and 13% Spandex, and this design has side and back pockets large enough to hold the largest of scorecards. The inseam is 11 inches; just the right length to keep beat back the hot Florida sun.

Oakley is a lot more than just a sunglasses company; did you know they have been making golf shoes for about 10 years. I knew they made golf apparel because I am a Bubba Watson fan and their logo is easily recognizable.

Their color selection and styles are deep. The fabric they use in their polos and shorts is comfortable, fast drying and offers enough stretch that it doesn't bind on your golf swing.
The antibacterial/odor fighting agent is nice; especially down here in Florida in the summer. I am thankful for it when I ride home with my playing partners after an afternoon round at a distant course!

Oakley's golf apparel can be found at most major golf retailers. For more information on any of Oakley's many products - be it golf or not - visit their website, www.oakley.com.

About: David Theoret

David Theoret David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
