frogg toggs Chilly Bean Hat Review

Keep a Cool Head With The Chilly Bean Hat

By David Theoret

I was first introduced to frogg toggs several years ago when my wife bought me one of their Chillin' Towels as a Christmas present. To be honest, it sat in the garage for a few years and when I came across it again, I decided to give it a try. I was headed out of town to a golf resort in Florida in August and thought there was no better time. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it kept me cool and immediately felt kind of stupid for not giving it a try sooner.

That said, my wife and I were out shopping at Bed Bath and Beyond not too long ago, when she came across The Chilly Bean - a baseball cap made by frogg toggs. All you have to do is dunk the hat in warm water before your round, wring it out and give it a shake. Your Chilly Bean 's evaporative cooling has just been activated.

The Chilly Bean should keep you cool for about 4 hours and last for years to come. The Chilly Bean is made from a hyper-evaporative and hyper-absorbent material and offers UPF 50 UV protection. It's machine washable and completely biodegradable. The adjustable Velcro strap ensures one size fits all. You'll notice that when the hat dries, it dries to the last shape it was. Wetting it makes it pliable once again. My only knock on it is that the crown of the cap is not all that deep.

Even if you're not a golfer, the Chilly Bean Cooling Hat is great for working outside on those hot summer days or just being outside in hot weather on a bad hair day!

frogg toggs has been around since 1996 and is perhaps better known for their raingear. They make high quality hunting and fishing gear that will keep you dry in the wettest weather. frogg toggs makes cooling towels, headbands and wristbands, but to me, the Chilly Bean Cooling Hat is revolutionary.

The Chilly Bean Hat is available at select retailers such as Sports Authority and the aforementioned Bed Bath and Beyond as well as through Amazon.com and the frogg toggs warehouse. For more information on frogg togg's Chilly Bean Cooling Hat, visit their website at www.froggtoggs.com.

David Theoret David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
