Chase54 Golf Gear Review

Chase54 Golf Gear Review

Continuing Their Winning Ways

By David Theoret

Last year I was introduced to the Chase54 brand and immediately fell in love with it; I couldn't find enough good things to say about them. Their designs are crisp and outside-the-box when it comes to golf attire. Their use of eco-friendly materials is second to none and continues to evolve. Just a couple of years ago they were using fabrics made from recycled coffee grounds and corn.

In 2015, Chase54 wants the world to know that not only is the company strong in design and special features, but they actually create the fabrics that make their apparel what it is. Their new Fusion54 Technology includes fabrics that keep you cool and dry on the course (DryFUZE), fabrics that keep you warm in cool weather (ClimaFUZE), and fabrics that are again eco-friendly (GreenFUZE). There's also a fabric to protect against the wind (UltraFUZE) and one that's super lightweight AND protects from the sun with a UPF of 50 (FeatherFUZE). Oh, and the one that my playing partners here in Florida are thankful for - especially on hot, humid summer days - FreSHIELD odor fighting technology! Many of their garments use a combination of two or more of these technologies in the same piece. CHASE54 is always testing and improving its men's and women's golf apparel. With Chase54, you can look great, feel great and play great in the latest and greatest golf apparel created with the finest fabrics, not available in other brands.

Chase54 describes themselves as an apparel company created by golfers, for golfers. They are a company that prides themselves on producing apparel that looks great both on and off the course and is affordable. For 2015, Chase54 has unveiled a fresh new logo and tagline: FOR THE PURSUIT. Also new is the brand's story, video, advertisements and a new website. A new manifesto will debut with the release of the fall line in June, 2015. Oh yeah, they have a couple of new brand ambassadors: Jerry Kelly and Brooke Pancake.

As I mentioned last year, one of the things that separates Chase54 from other golf apparel designers is their attention to detail. This year, Chase 54 has incorporated removable collar-stays into many of their polos. This gives the garment a dress shirt appearance, similar to high-end button-down oxfords. Their color palette is vast, some of the brightest eye-popping colors on the market. Chase54 pants and shorts have a rubber tape on the inside of the waistband to prevent the shirt from untucking during play. Those are just a few of the unique features of these garments; others can be found in the individual descriptions below.

Here's what caught our eye from the Men's and Women's Spring 2015 collection:

Men's Apparel

Men's Outlook Pant - The Outlook pant may well be the perfect golf pant. The velvety peach finish and DryFUZE ensure that you will move through your swing with ease and comfort while keeping dry with the fabric's moisture-wicking technology. Deep front pockets keep valuables safe and secure, and the back pockets are wide enough to handle a scorecard or yardage book. An extra right side pocket makes for easy, accessible storage - just the right size for a handheld GPS. There's also a metal Chase54 emblem on right back pocket. Available in Platinum only and in various waist/length sizes. Retail: $92.00

Men's Kolton Shorts - A short version of the Outlook Rescue pant. The DryFUZE poly/span is made with 10% spandex for mobility and comfort, and wicks away moisture. You could swim in these, but they were designed for golf. Deep front pockets keep valuables secure and the back pockets are designed to hold all scorecards and yardage books. A waterproof right back pocket with a Chase54 logo on it keeps contents dry. As if that's not enough, there's a small media pocket on the right leg. The Kolton short is a regular fit with a 10.5" inseam. They are available in sizes 30 - 38 and in 2 colors: platinum and white. Retail: $84

Men's Cyclone Polo - With DRYFUZE, this high-gauge micropoly is softer than any shirt I own and weighs next to nothing. With high moisture-wicking properties and a UPF rating of 30+, you'll stay dry and protected from the sun, no matter how bad you hit that last drive. YOUR FIT ensures that your look is neither baggy nor clingy. Removable collar stays keep the collar points down while reinforced top-stitching keeps everything together. The colors are bright and the reflective tape details are a nice touch; something you won't see from other companies. The Cyclone shirt is available in sizes S - XXL and in four colors: Crimson, Algiers, Regatta and Shamrock. Retail: $68

Men's Blizzard Polo - DryFUZE technology makes this regular fit polo soft, ultra-comfortable and moisture-wicking. The 88/12 poly/spandex fabric gives you full mobility to swing. The print is interesting; the color seems to fade away as it goes down the shirt. Removable collar stays are a nice touch too and keep the collar points down, adding to an already near-perfect look, while top stitching at the seams provide reinforcement. The Chase54 logo is embroidered on the back of the neck. The Blizzard polo is available in sizes S - XL and in two colors: Shamrock (green) and Regatta (blue). Retail: $68

Men's Zone 1/2 Zip Pullover - This is a great mid-weight pullover for any season. The French Terry finish of the DryFUZE fabric makes this garment extremely soft while the moisture - wicking properties keep you dry and comfortable. With YOUR FIT, you will find this garment neither baggy nor fitted. This piece also features front pockets that are perfect for stashing your personal items. The Chase54 logo is embroidered on the back of the neck. The Zone Pullover is available in sizes S - XXL and in two colors: Beryl (white) and Onyx (gray). Retail: $88

Women's Apparel

Jolie Short - The Jolie short is created with DRYFUZE, which allows the fabric to stretch and move with you during your swing. And with YOUR FIT, the look is neither baggy nor fitted. The moisture-wicking properties of the Jolie Short will keep you dry and comfortable throughout your round. The waistband is contoured to shape around your waist without gaping at the back and the short has a 14" inseam. The double button and zip closure keep these shorts secure throughout the round and the zig-zag topstitching detail at side seams and belt loops is a nice touch. Top-loading front pockets are deep enough to ensure that your valuables stay safe and secure and the back pocket was designed with score cards and yardage books in mind. The Jolie Short Is available in sizes 2 - 16 and in several colors including Amaranth, Papaya, Platinum and Riviera. We found that the sizing ran a little bit small; something to keep in mind when ordering from the website. Retail: $72.

Vine Polo - SORONA by DUPONT yarn is a renewable fiber made of corn and is used in constructing this garment primarily because of its moisture-wicking, quick-drying, and ultra-comfortable characteristics. This 88/12, poly/spandex blend does not fade, and is stain resistant. This garment carries a UPF rating of 30+ providing ample protection from the sun's glaring ultraviolet rays. The Princess seams and Tuscany Trim give the Vine Polo added appeal and YOUR FIT ensures that your look is neither baggy nor fitted. The stretch of the fabric allows for full mobility and restores shape after washing. The Vine Polo is available in sizes XS - 2XL and in 3 colors - Holy, Onyx and Pearl. Retail: $70.

Picardie Sleeveless Polo - DRYFUZE poly/spandex keeps the Picardie Sleeveless polo soft and comfortable while at the same time, wicking moisture away from your body. The stretch in the fabric allows full mobility and returns its shape after washing. Back waist darts compliment your shape and Chase 54's YOUR FIT technology ensures that the garment is neither baggy nor fitted. Topstitching at the seams adds reinforcement and the fabric's UPF rating of 30+ provides ample protection under the glaring sun. The Picardie Sleeveless polo is available in sizes XS - 2XL and in Cornflower. Retail: $68

Murlo Short - This short is much like the Jolie short only in a vivid design. The design, which incorporates a combination of holy, onyx and pearl, is very appealing and the fit is spot-on. The front pockets keep valuables secure and with YOUR FIT, you can be sure that the Murlo short is neither baggy nor tight. Available in sizes 2 - 16. Retail: $76.

Roselle Skort - The DRYFUZE poly/spandex space-dye yarn used in the Roselle Skort is comfortable and moisture-wicking and the incredible stretch in the fabric allows full mobility. Better yet, it always restores its shape after washing. The inner compression short has flat-lock seams and provides total comfort. This regular fit garment has a 19" outseam, a wide contrast waist band and a back kick pleat with a contrasting color. With Chase54's YOUR FIT, the look is neither baggy nor fitted and a UPF rating of 30+ provides added protection from the sun's harmful rays. There is a front pocket as well as 2 back pockets which are just the right size for score cards and yardage books. There is also a hidden pocket at the front waistband for small personal items. It's available in sizes 0 - 18 and in Capri, Mint, Onyx and pale violet. Retail: $76.

Halle V-Neck Sweater - This 70% Viscose and 30% Cotton sweater is the perfect mid-layer weight for year-round play. The sweater features ribbed detailing with a V-neck shape that has the perfect depth for all of your layering techniques! The sleeves are fully fashioned and fitted in a comfortable way, letting you move freely through your golf swing. And, with Chase54's YOUR FIT, the Halle sweater is a happy medium between baggy and fitted. This sweater is extremely flattering and will hug you in all the right places and is available in sizes XS - XXL and in 5 colors: Amethyst, Blue Zircon, Jade, Onyx and Pearl! Retail: $80.

Last Word: Chase54 continues to impress with their styles and colors. I see them becoming a real contender in the golf apparel business and the larger companies should really start taking notice. The fabrics they come up with are like no one else's, vibrant with a soft, luxurious feel. They stand up to the elements, keeping you warm (or cold) as the case may be. Summer apparel is breathable and comfortable, not binding or restrictive. I'm sure that as more and more golfers realize the great look and tremendous value of Chase54's golf apparel, it will start popping up at major golf retailers. For now, it's available at several online golf shops. For more information, or to purchase online, visit their website at www.chase54.com.

For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher.
