Catherine Wingate Apparel Golf Review

Fashion Meets Versatility

By David Theoret

Many women feel that there just isn't enough cute , functional and fashionable golf clothing on the market. Catherine Wingate believes differently; The Catherine Wingate brand was founded on the belief that women golfers can be athletic and chic at the same time.

Recognizing that a visit to a first class golf resort or country club gave women a reason to dress up, Catherine Wingate created her luxury brand of women's golf apparel in Beverly Hills, California in 2012. Catherine also believed that to dress up, women shouldn't have to sacrifice comfort. The Catherine Wingate Collection allows lady golfers to adhere to the strictest country club standards with style while at the same time remaining comfortable.

Ultimate comfort is achieved by using high performance athletic fabrics that allow golfers to feel their best, weather on the course or on the town. The design team works hard to create fit and style, producing garments that flattering the female physique. Every piece of apparel from the current line allows women golfers to go straight from the golf course to the clubhouse. The goal is to have ladies look and play their best.

Catherine Wingate Apparel uses a high-end polyester/spandex blend carry at UPF rating of 50, keeping your skin protected during your round. All of the fabrics are treated for moisture wicking - which wicks moisture away and allows it to evaporate quickly - and anti-bacterial features. The polyester/spandex fabric provides a four-way stretch fabric which allows women to comfortably during the swing.

Wingate's Zip-Front dress is one such piece that exemplifies both comfort and versatility. What makes this piece unique is the built-in skort and two side pockets. The dress is available in white and navy and retails for $195. The Zip-front dress was one of the products that helped Catherine Wingate win Best New Product in the apparel category at the 2014 PGA Merchandise Show. Not bad for a company that was two years old at the time!

Other pieces that caught our eyes were the Athletic Stretch Short, the Sporty Chic Skort and the Sleeveless Color Blocked Polo. The Athletic Stretch Short could quite honestly be the most comfortable golf shorts on the planet. The fabric is a four way stretch French Terry - a polyester/spandex blend. The customized rivets and buttons on the cuff give these shorts a little extra style. The tee holders built into the belt loop are a nice touch too. The shorts retail for $119 on the Catherine Wingate website.

The Sporty Chic Skort and Sleeveless Color Blocked Polo are made from a four-way stretch micropoly/Lycra blend which contains a quick drying function that pulls moisture away from skin and dries quickly. The fabric also has long lasting anti-bacterial features and blocks and absorbs UV-rays to protect skin from dangerous sun damage. This polo is both comfortable and flattering. The skort is available in either navy or white, both with light pink accents. Retail on the skort is $130 and the polos are $98.

The apparel collection includes tops, dresses and bottoms that are available in a variety of colors and patterns. The classic Wingate pants are widely sought after because they are extremely comfortable as well as their special attention to detail, such as tee holders on the belt loops. One of Catherine Wingate's most popular prints this year is a lemon print. What makes this print special is that because the print is so unique, each panel is sewn together like a jigsaw puzzle to get a perfect match.

The company is starting to get noticed, partially due to the fact the Golf Channel associate editor Bailey Mosier has been spotted wearing Wingate's apparel. She is also the company's model. The line is currently available online at www.catherinewingate-apparel.com and in selected resorts and country clubs.

About: David Theoret

David Theoret David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
