SkyGolf SkyCaddie TOUCH GPS

SkyGolf SkyCaddie TOUCH GPS Review

Taking Handheld GPS Units to a Whole New Level

By David Theoret

The new flagship of the SkyGolf product lineup is the SkyCaddie TOUCH GPS which offers a golf glove-friendly touchscreen and Bluetooth connectivity. These features provide the ultimate user experience and convenience when paired with the free SkyGolf mobile app.

The TOUCH features a 3" high-resolution, color screen with a display that vividly depicts each of the 35,000+ preloaded courses.

SkyCaddie has earned the reputation as the most-trusted rangefinder in golf and perhaps rightfully so. The Bluetooth wireless capabilities give the SkyCaddie TOUCH easy access to the most accurate and up-to-date course maps. After play, you can upload your scores instantly to the SkyGolf Cloud for analysis of your game.
There are several other features of the TOUCH that are worth noting. The Interactive HoleVue with patented auto zoom provides an aerial view of the entire hole and instantly gives you the distances you need to avoid hazards and clear that lake. You can get the exact distance to any point on the hole whether you can see what's ahead or not.

IntelliGreen Technology gives you the exact shape of the green relative to your angle of approach. Get useful information such as front and back carry distances, green depth, as well as distances to any other part of the green simultaneously.

The TrueGround Target list will give you a list of distances to things you probably want to avoid - up to 40 points per hole.

The AutoView feature gives immediate access to IntelliGreen and the Scorecard

Last Word: I've always had trouble seeing the screen on a bright sunny day, especially when wearing sunglasses. I found that wasn't a problem with the SkyCaddie TOUCH; it was easily readable in the brightest of conditions. Another easy to use feature is what I call the "Mark" feature. This allows you to measure the distance of any shot you hit and get better connected with your golf clubs. Knowing how far it is to the hole is one thing, but knowing how far you realistically hit that seven iron is as equally important.

The SkyCaddie Touch comes with a lithium-ion polymer battery that will hold a charge for up to 12-14 hours of play. The unit is competitively priced at $299.99 and, if that were the only costs associated with ownership, I would call it the best valued GPS unit on the market. However, just like other SkyGolf products, there is an annual contract involved of around $50. Although the unit will still pull up your course without purchasing an annual membership, you probably bought the unit for all of the bells and whistles which does require a membership to get them to work correctly. If all you're after is front, middle and back distances, you can find something that will save you a couple of hundred bucks.

The SkyCaddie Touch is available at most major golf retailers, both brick and mortar and online. For more information on the SkyCaddie TOUCH or any of their other products, you can visit the website at www.skygolf.com.

About: David Theoret

David Theoret David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
