GolfBuddy CT2 Review

GolfBuddy continues to prove that good things do indeed come in small packages with the introduction of their CT2 Micro GPS unit. It's smaller than a 2 inch square, weighs virtually nothing and is packed with features. In fact, it makes one wonder, how can something so small give out so much information?

Like all other GolfBuddy products, the CT2 is fee free - you will never pay anything to access all of the features or download new courses. The versatile design of the CT2 allows it to easily slip into your pocket or clip to a towel ring, belt or golf bag. The hold is strong enough that it won't pop off as you drive over rough terrain. The unit also includes a lanyard so you can wear it around your neck. Although the device is small, the numbers on the display are large and easy to read in any type of weather. All of the features are accessed by 4 easy to use buttons.

When fully charged, the lithium polymer battery provides 17 hours of life in GPS mode. Battery status is always on display in the upper right corner of the screen. It also comes preloaded with over 37,000 golf courses. Simply show up to the course, switch in on and within a couple of minutes, it recognizes your course and is ready to go. In the event you are not starting on the first hole, (for example, playing in a tournament or sneaking on to the course) it recognizes where you're at automatically.

The CT2 has features that have only been seen in GolfBuddy's higher priced (and larger) GPS units such as Dynamic Green View and Pin Placement. Green View shows you the shape of the green and its dimensions and Pin Placement allows you to move the pin around using the buttons. The CT2 always provides an accurate distance, whether you are approaching the green from the middle of the fairway or from the trees. It's also waterproof to 10 meters just in case!

The GolfBuddy CT2 provides distances to the front, middle and back of the green. You can measure shot distance too, which is a great feature to have when trying to calibrate a new set of irons or taking money from your buddies on that longest drive bet. There's also the built-in odometer feature which shows you how far you trekked during the round.

The CT2 also provides accurate distances to all types of hazards - 20 of them are identified in the user's manual you can download from the website (www.golfbuddygolbal.com). After you complete a hole, you can input your score into the digital scorecard with just a couple presses of the buttons. This unit is perfectly legal for tournament play.

Another feature worth a mention is that the time can be displayed either in digital or analog format. Most users will choose digital with large, easy to read numbers, however displaying the time like a watch is a pretty cool feature. There's also a stopwatch feature so you'll know how long your playing partner spent kibitzing with that cute cart girl. The "when the sun rises and sets" screen can be used to remind him that you are running out of daylight.

GolfBuddy is dedicated to providing golfers with a practical, user-friendly experience, and the CT2 simplifies the process. What you can expect is incredible distance accuracy combined with extended battery life and a full array of features in a small, micro-sized GPS. The GolfBuddy CT2 is available in two colors: white/blue and white/green, and originally had an MSRP of $179.99 although I saw it on their website the other day for $150.
