Performance Fabrics You Can Rely On

By David Theoret

When it comes to apparel technology that adapts to all types of weather conditions, no one does it better than Callaway. The company introduced a lot of its OptiSeries apparel technologies a couple of years and well, if It ain't broke, don't fix it! If you need a little more give in your garments to transition easily through your swing, there's OptiStretch. If you're worried about keeping dry and protected from the sun's harmful rays, there's OptiDri and OptiShield. Want to stay warm and dry while playing in inclement weather? Then you need OptiTherm and OptiRepel.

Nearly all of Callaway's golf apparel includes OptiDri, OptiShield and OptiStretch, while their weather series keeps you protected from the elements. As always, Callaway's designs and patterns are bright and playful in both tops and bottoms. Here are some of the pieces we saw:

Callaway's Men's Performance Colorblock Polo may well be the polo of the year. This great looking garment will have the ladies at the course doing a double take. No matter which of the 8 colors you pick, they seem to pop, making the placket and sleeves stand out. This polo is not lacking for technology either: OptiDri keeps sweat off your body, OptiShield keeps you protected from the sun's harmful rays and OptiStretch ensures that this polo moves with you throughout the golf swing. The 3-button placket and ribbed collar add a nice color contrast and the Callaway Tour logo is embroidered on the left sleeve as well as the left chest, leaving no mistake about your favorite brand. It's easy to care for too; just machine wash warm and tumble dry. The Performance Colorblock Polo is available in sizes S-XXXL and in the following colors: Bright White, Caviar, High Rise, Peacoat, Tango Red, High Rise Heather, Magnetic Blue and Magnetic Blue Heather. Retail price is a scant $55.

The Men's Performance Flat Front Tech Pants combine classic looks with a wide range of technology. OptiShield's 50+ UPF protection keeps you well protected from the sun. OptiDri keeps moisture away from your skin. An expandable waist band and OptiStretch construction keeps you moving through your entire golf swing. Two slant-cut front pockets and two welted back pockets provide more than enough storage. Callaway's Chevron Logo above the back right pocket quickly identifies the brand and the Easy Care fabric makes this technical garment a snap to care for; just machine wash warm and tumble dry. The Men's Performance Flat Front Tech Pants are available in waist sizes 30 - 44 and in four colors: Caviar, Chinchilla, Quite Shade and Silver Lining. Retail Price is $60

If you're prone to playing in wet weather, you may as well be dry and comfortable while you're out there and the Men's Short Sleeved Stretch Windshirt with OptiRepel fabric resists rain and wind better than most. The Short Sleeved Stretch Windshirt offers superior protection against Old Man Weather while the OptiStretch fabric allows you to move effortlessly with punching or binding through your golf swing. The ¼ zip closure and mock collar keeps the garment out of your field of vision during the swing too and the short sleeves let air flow in and out. The right chest pocket is zipped and will keep your stuff dry and the embroidered logo on the left chest and heat seal logo on the left sleeve clearly identifies the brand. The Short Sleeved Stretch Windshirt is available in sizes S-XXXL and in Caviar, Palace Blue and High Rise. Retail price is $65.

The Men's Golf Performance Chev Belt is 100% genuine split leather in a 1 ½" width, making it the perfect fit for all of your pants and shorts. The cutout Chevron logo buckle is made of polished nickel, giving it a sporty, golf look. The Chev Belt is available in 32" - 44" lengths and in Brown, Bright White and Caviar. Retail price is $45.

Callaway also makes some great outerwear for women too. The Women's Printed ¼ Zip Pullover offers the utmost in fabric technology and style. OptiDri manages moisture and keeps you dry and OptiShield keeps the sun's harmful UV rays at bay. The asymmetrical sleeve cuffs aid in sun protection too. The quarter zip makes this outer piece =easy to get on and off and the shape of the print on the front and back panels create a slimming effect; very flattering to the female figure. The Callaway Chevron is proudly displayed on the center of the back collar and the mock collar zips all the way up to keep out the elements. The Printed ¼ Zip Pullover is available in sizes XS-XL and in either Silver Lining or Bright White. Retail price is $80.

If you play as good as you look in this Performance Color Blocked Polo, you're bound to shoot the round of your life. Performance wise, this polo's got it all. OptiCool keeps you from overheating, OptiVent provides maximum breathability and OptiDri keeps moisture way from your body and helps it to evaporate quickly. The 100% Polyester material and self-collar produce a comfortable fit for the ladies and the 5-button placket lets you determine how much sun you get. There's a Callaway Chevron located on the left hem. About: David Theoret

David Theoret David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
