La Quinta Resort To Be Showcased In New CAREERBUILDER CHALLENGE

Professional golf returns to La Quinta Resort & Club's legendary TPC Stadium Course and Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West as the CareerBuilder Challenge (previously Humana Challenge) gears up for its first tourney January 18-24, 2016. Host to the Skins Game, Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and PGA Tour Qualifying School Finals, the Pete Dye-designed TPC Stadium Course is renowned for many historic moments in professional golf, including Lee Trevino's dramatic hole-in-one in the 1987 Skins Game. Hailed as The Western Home of Golf in America offering three award-winning public courses and three private courses designed by legends Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, Greg Norman and Tom Weiskopf, the Waldorf Astoria Resort is also home to the new PGA WEST Golf Academy.

Rated one of the "Top 100 Courses in the World," by GOLF Magazine, TPC Stadium Course at PGA WEST steps up with a 72-par, 7,300-yard layout. Inspired by the Scottish links-style courses and viewed as the sequel to the TPC at Sawgrass, Dye designed the course with tournament play in mind. Spectacular routing and arresting vistas of the Santa Rosa Mountains set the stage for the 76.1 rated course which owns its mystique for its unique undulations, cavernous bunkers and peninsula and island par 3s. Named "Stadium" due to Dye's ingenious plan to sculpt spectator seating into the natural terrain, TPC Stadium has hosted many golf legends seeking to master its signature holes, including the famous 17th -- known as Alcatraz - a par-3, 166-yard island shot leaving little room for error.

Designed for power hitters off the tee, the 7,204-yard Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA WEST steps up with a 72-par layout, elevated greens and a stroke rating of 75.3. Combining stunning mountain backdrops with a challenging 143 slope rating, the masterfully designed course is one of the only courses in the world to feature two island greens and is known for incorporating multiple fairway angles of attack to tap the player's ability to work the ball around the receptive bunker-lined greens. Ideally set up for gallery viewing from the clubhouse, the enormous and undulated double-greens on the 9th and 18th holes demand a targeted approach shot over water to hit the dance floor, followed by an exacting putt for par. Tempered by dramatic 3-pars pushing the short game to a new level, the iconic course has hosted numerous national tournaments including two PGA Grand Slams, the PGA Tour Qualifying School Finals, Diners Club Matches and the PGA Club Professional Championship.
