Getting To Know: Lake Windsor Golf Club

An Insightful Interview With Scott Mowatt, PGA Head Golf Professional

By Brian Weis

Whether you have played a course 20+ times a year or looking to play the course for the first time, insights from an insider can help enhance your golf experience. Below is an interview with Scott Mowatt who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.

Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property Lake Windsor Country Club is a privately-owned daily fee golf course located minutes from Madison. The facility includes an 18 hole championship golf course, driving range, putting green, chipping green with practice bunker, & 2012 Yahaha gas carts. We also have a newly remodeled clubhouse featuring our award winning banquet facility, Bar & Grill open 11am-9pm, fully stocked Pro Shop, locker rooms with showers and much more! We host many company, personal, fundraising, and bachelor party golf outings. We offer many different golf leagues for men and women and have memberships available.

If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course? If you are in the area and are looking to play golf there are numerous reasons why I'd choose Lake Windsor Golf Club. We are conveniently located just off of exit 131 just North of Madison on the way to Wisconsin Dells. We have all of the amenities you could ask for listed above. Our great course conditions offer a great value with very competitive rates. Our friendly and professional staff and relaxed atmosphere definitely make Lake Windsor a great choice for golf in the Madison area.

What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course? Just keep it in the fairway. I know it's easier said than done but it's tempting to pull out driver off every tee sometimes. There isn't necessarily always a need for that. If you put yourself in the right position and can keep yourself out of trouble, you will give your self a chance to make a lot of birdies. If you try to be aggressive, you can certainly make some big numbers out here. Play smart and you're score will show it. We've lengthened the course on a bunch of holes so I'm not saying distance doesn't help, but keep it in the fairway and you'll do just fine.

Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course?
The greens out here are always in great shape and our grounds crew does an amazing job making sure that they roll fast and smooth. We also have an amazing award winning banquet facility. It is perfect weddings, golf outings, rehearsal dinners, retirement parties, holiday parties, showers, and more.

What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole?
The 14th hole is definitely our signature and most talked about hole. It is a par 3 with a slightly elevated tee shot that is pretty much all carry over water. The middle tees play anywhere from about 140 - 160 yards. The forward tees play about 115 yards to the middle. We recently added a back tee box that elevates you even more and plays about 180 yards to the middle of the green. The water in between the tee and the green is definitely filled with its share of golf balls, but there is plenty of room behind the green so if you take enough club and try to forget about the water you'll be just fine

What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It?
The 14th hole is definitely my favorite hole. With it being a long par 3 that usually plays into the wind, it can be a great turning point in a match. Going into #14 you can be down in a match but turn everything around if you can hit a good tee shot. My tip would be to trust the distance and not get to wrapped up in the fact that it is all carry over water.

Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole?
You'll never go wrong with one of the wraps. Specifically the chicken/bacon ranch wrap. Our Friday night fish fry is always a great choice. The nachos and wings are a big hit on league nights. Our most popular drink at weddings is easily our old fashions. We make our old fashioned mix from scratch and always receive a lot of compliments.

Who Holds Course Record and What Was Their Score?
Rich Crimm holds the official course record with a 62. We have since put in 5 new tee boxes and have three sets of tees now. We currently don't have an official course record from the back tees. The renovation process should be complete by September 2016 and then the course record will be up for grabs.

Back Tee Stats
Par: 72
Yardage: 6383
Slope: 125
Rating: 71
