Golf Course Overview: Tapatio Springs Resort
Insights From An Insider With David Murrah, PGA Director of Golf Operations
By Brian Weis
Local and traveling golfers love to research courses before playing them, whether it is to gain some local knowledge or to set an expectation before their upcoming round. Below is an interview with David Murrah who shares some valuable insight about the property, its most talked about holes and the signature dish/drink to consume at the 19th hole.
How Does Your Course Differ From The Others In The Area?
We are Texas Hill Country Authentic - Our setting is so unique and our golf course fits so naturally into the terrain. Add to that our great course conditions and you will see - Tapatio Springs Resort is awesome!
For someone who has not played the course in awhile, has there been any new changes/renovations to the course or property?
We just completed a $2 million dollar renovation project to our golf course in October 2015. It took another few months to grow in the changes but here we sit in June of 2016 and this place is awesome. Our '15 renovation work included renovating 72 of the 75 tee boxes, complete course bunker reconstruction (new bunker positions, new bunker style/design and new bunker constructions), renovated 4 greens, renovated and redesigned driving range, improved course irrigation, drainage and overall conditions. Add to that the more than $3 million dollars spent throughout other parts of the resort property and you have a vastly improved property that is getting a whole lot of attention these days.
What is your course's answer to Amen Corner? (Describe your best/hardest 3 back/back/back holes)
When you turn the corner on #13 and head home you have to negotiate 5 solid finishing holes (#14 thru #18). Holes 14, 15 & 16 are 3 par 4's that demand solid and accurate tee shots, approaches smartly placed to pin locations and putts that respect runaway slopes. These 3 holes will separate the field when coming down the stretch.
What is your course's claim to fame, or is there a little known fact that golfers should know about the property?
Everyone enjoys the connection of having George Strait as one of our owners. Mr. Strait represents a very solid standard for business and entertainment as well as an iconic legend of country music. Tapatio Springs Resort represents that profile in many ways to all of our guests and their regular daily experience here.
What tournaments/events have you (recently) hosted or will be hosting? Our club set's up well for a wide variety of quality tournament presentations from Girls Division I Collegiate, to STPGA Section Events, to TGA events to favorite fundraisers for our community, military and numerous other organizations.
Besides golf, what other amenities do you offer if a golfer wants to spend most of the day at your facility? Golf is only one of our featured amenities. Guest at Tapatio enjoy 2 pool areas (1 adult pool & 1 larger family style pool), Horseshoe Park, full service PURESOL Spa, horseback riding trips, delicious indoor and outdoor dinning, live music on Friday and Saturday nights and much, much more!
Signature sandwich or drink?
The LC Burger get's it done every time but occasionally I will enjoy the Blackened Salmon or the Tapatio Reuben!

In his adult years, his passion for the game collided with his entrepreneurial spirit and in 2004 launched GolfWisconsin.com. In 2007, the idea for a network of local golf directory sites formed and GolfTrips.com was born. Today, the network consists of a site in all 50 states supported by national sites like GolfTrips.com, GolfGuide.com and GolfPackages.com. It is an understatement to say, Brian is passionate about promoting golf and golf travel on a local, regional, national and international level.
On the golf course, Brian is known as a fierce weekend warrior that fluctuates between a 5-9 handicap. With a soft fade, known as "The Weis Slice", and booming 300+ drives, he can blast it out of bounds with the best of them.
