30 LPGA Legends Tour members to compete during tournament's final round
By Brian Weis
Today the Symetra Tour announced the first tournament addition on the road to the LPGA Tour in 2019 with the Janesville Golf Classic, to be contested from Aug. 2-4 in Janesville, Wis., at the historic Janesville Country Club.
"The Janesville Country Club is honored to welcome the talented LPGA Symetra and Legends Tour players to our phenomenal club and community," said Janesville Country Club General Manager Derek Intinarelli. "The membership is excited about the inaugural event in 2019, and beyond. The relationship with the LPGA, Symetra and Legends Tour is extraordinary and we look forward to that continuing. Janesville Country Club is dedicated to hosting a tournament that is engaging, interactive, community oriented and makes a lasting impression."
Janesville Country Club has the distinction of being the sixth country club established in the United States, the second in the Midwest and the first in the Badger State. Its unique and storied history dates back to 1901, when the venue served as the host site for the first Wisconsin State Championship.
Next year's inaugural Janesville Golf Classic will be the first professional golf event played at Janesville Country Club. It will feature a 144-player field competing in a 54-hole stroke play format for a purse of $150,000. After 36 holes, a cut will be made to the top 60 players and ties.
In addition, 30 LPGA Legends Tour members will join the field following the cut to compete for their own $150,000 purse over 18 holes.
"We are excited to add the Janesville Golf Classic to the 2019 Symetra Tour schedule and are thrilled to be able to allow our members to play alongside LPGA Legends Tour greats," said Mike Nichols, the Chief Business Officer for the Symetra Tour. "Janesville Country Club has such a rich golf history, it is a tremendous addition to our already robust Midwest tournament schedule."
The event will mark the first time that Symetra Tour and LPGA Legends Tour players compete with each other since the 2016 Chico's Patty Berg Memorial.
"The LPGA Legends Tour is thrilled to once again partner with the Symetra Tour, playing alongside the future stars of the LPGA," said Gail Graham, President of the Legends Tour. "With the inaugural playing of the Senior LPGA Championship last year and the inaugural U.S. Senior Women's Open in Chicago last weekend, the spotlight on the Legends Tour and great players has never been brighter."
Furthermore, corporate partners and individuals will have the opportunity to play with Symetra Tour professionals in a Pro-Am event on Thursday, Aug. 1, as well as Legends Tour members immediately after the tournament on Monday, Aug. 5. Anyone interested in corporate sponsorship opportunities or volunteering for the event is encouraged to contact Derek Intinarelli (dintinarelli@janesvillecc.com or 608.755.7777).
"Bringing this internationally renowned sports event to our community is a great opportunity to showcase not only Janesville Country Club, but all that Janesville has to offer," said Christine Rebout, the Executive Director for the Janesville Area Convention & Visitor's Bureau. "Known as Wisconsin's Great Outside, we have plenty of recreation, attractions, shopping and dining to explore. We are looking forward to providing an exceptional experience for the players, their families and the spectators during the week-long tournament festivities."
