Palmer Course at Reunion Resort & Golf Club Gets a New Look
By Dave Daubert
Reunion Resort & Golf Club in Central Florida has new ownership as of 2019 and Kingwood International Resorts is investing major monies into the refurbishing of the three Signature championship golf courses, Palmer, Watson & Nicklaus. There is no other golf resort in the world where you can find superb service, top-notch golf designed by the threesome of Arnold, Tom and Jack along with exclusive lodging and a full assortment of amenities for the family.
I had the opportunity to take a swing at the Palmer and was I impressed. There were workman redoing the landscape around the edges of the golf course, cleaning up the waste areas that are prevalent on Palmer and just a lot of assiduous TLC. What you notice when you reach the green complexes is a whole new look and feel. The bunkers have been reworked with sparkling white sand which magnifies the deep emerald color of the surrounds and the immaculate greens. The bunkers have been filled to make them less penal to the average golfer and easier to get the ball out of, which should improve time of play and lessen frustration. The Palmer is my favorite course because it is the most player friendly at 6,916 yards with plenty of fairway to accept your tee shot and a great selection of diverse holes including par 3s I have the opportunity to score well on. The many elevation changes over 50 feet throughout the par 72 layout give the Palmer its unique character. The signature #7 hole is a risk/reward challenge that longer hitters can attempt the just over 300 yard shot to a well protected narrow and long green. I usually aim at the left corner of the left greenside bunker for my ball to land in the short grass for an easy chip. I can't wait to see the new looks at Watson and Nicklaus.
Only a short 30 minute drive from the Orlando International Airport and six miles from Walt Disney World, Reunion Resort and Golf Club has 360 resort accommodations including luxury condominiums, private villas and vacation homes surrounded by 2,300 acres of lush landscaping as well as a nature preserve.
