The ultimate golf vacation is staying and playing at a golf resort. Below is an interview with Nicole Althouse-Garced who shares some valuable information about staying and golfing at The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort.

Give our readers an overview of the golf resort.
Evoking an atmosphere of old world charm, our 103 guest rooms, and suites balance comfort, convenience, and history. All offer views of our famous golf course, the Delaware River or our expansive grounds. Because the property was built in 1911, no two rooms are alike. Each differs in size and configuration, yet all share our commitment to environmentally friendly and sustainable practices, including chemical-free housekeeping and all-natural soaps and shampoos. Our room amenities include a hairdryer, coffeemaker, iron, ironing board, down alternative comforter, luxury pillow menu, complimentary wifi, alarm clock, telephone, direct TV, wake-up calls, voicemail, unlimited local and 800 calls, and toiletries. Also offered are turndown service, a live plant, AC and individual climate control for each guest room.

All guests have access to the many amenities and services provided by the resort, including the indoor pool and jacuzzi, the business center, the fitness center, ShawneeCraft Brewery, and the Shawnee Spa and Salon. Bell service, concierge, and valet service are also available to guests. Our guests can enjoy daily activities planned by our recreation team, which include but are not limited to guided hikes, brewery tours, orienteering, and archery.

The Shawnee course, 27 holes on a golf island, was completed in 1911 and is A.W. Tillinghast's first-ever design. The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort boast a long line of greats who've played our championship courses, including Walter Hagen, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Lawson Little, Long Jim Barnes, and Johnny Farrell.

This historic Poconos golf course boasts incredible views of the surrounding landscape that can't be beaten. You may even get the chance to catch a sighting of the local fauna, including deer, hawks, or eagles. If guests are in need of club rentals, gear upgrades, or souvenirs, the onsite pro shop has everything for a perfect day out on the green. Our resort offers a driving range, putting green, chip 'n' putt course, and golf lessons if you need to freshen up your game.

Dining at any of our onsite restaurants is as an exciting experience to our guests' palates as is the natural pristine setting for their senses. The River Room Restaurant is open for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, and is located in the main inn. The Buckwood Bakery and Cafe, also located in the main inn, offers coffee, tea, baked goods and a light menu for breakfast, lunch, or if you are simply looking for a tasty treat. The Gem and Keystone Brewpub, located at the entrance to our resort grounds, offers lunch and dinner and is home to our ShawneeCraft beer. The ShawneeCraft Taproom, located inside our on-site brewery, not only features our handcrafted beer, but also offers a pizza and pretzel menu, and hosts live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

For a small additional fee, our river trips offer the best way to experience the wild and scenic Delaware River. Some of our popular River Trips include guided kayak tours, canoe, and brew for the beer lovers, and sunset paddles that includes a cozy fire, s'mores, and music. A Shawnee River Tour includes less rowing and more relaxing, as guests will journey down the river within a guided pontoon. All trips are either 3 miles, 6 miles, or 10 miles. Rates include canoes, kayaks, or rafts, as well as paddles, required life jackets, orientation, shuttle transportation, and parking.
