Proving Water Can Be Your Friend

By David Theoret

As a golfer, you are probably aware of the advantages of custom fitted golf clubs. Having the correct loft, lie angle, shaft, length and grip can do wonders for your scorecard. Not quite as much as an eraser, but that's another story! And, according to Bob Van Sweden, TaylorMade's 2009 national Clubfitter of the Year "The higher the handicap, the more necessary it is for that player to get fit."
Ok, now consider this. If having the right set of clubs is important, isn't using a ball that is going best respond to your swing - and new equipment - equally as important? After all of the tweaking you went through with you clubs, don't you want to use a ball that offers the optimum ball speed, launch angle, and spin rate? Bridgestone thinks so.

Bridgestone is the #1 ball fitter in the game and offers a couple of ways to be fit and find the best golf ball for your game. The easy way out is to go to their website (http://www.bridgestonegolf.com/product/ball-selection-guide) and either enter data from your last launch monitor visit or go through their B-Fit Service and answer a few questions that will lead you down the path to golf ball nirvana.
The preferred way is to go to a Bridgestone Ball Fitting Challenge the next time they are in your area - usually at a local country club or golf retailer. You can go to the website (www.bridgestonegolf.com) for a list of upcoming events. The folks from Bridgestone will match your swing with the correct Bridgestone ball. They'll also compare it to the ball your currently playing to see what's best for you. It takes about 10 - 15 minutes to get fit and is well worth the time spent.

I decided to test both Bridgestone systems and look for any inconsistencies. Not surprisingly, there were none, both systems recommended the same ball. There is a chat option under the Contact Us tab on the website. I spoke at length with a representative who determined that I was on the cusp of two different balls: the B330-RX and B330-RXS. If push came to shove, he recommended the RX over the RXS but, in the end, I got both and put them to the test. Unfortunately neither is equipped with sonar nor floats.

Ever since I was taught the game of golf, I learned to avoid the water. Bridgestone, however, embraces it and proves that the water can be your friend. The new Tour B330-RX and B330-RXS are two Bridgestone balls that feature the newly patented Hydro Core Technology, aimed at generating greater distance and accuracy for golfers with swing speeds less than 105 mph. With the results from over 250,000 launch monitor tests from its Ball Fitting Challenge, Bridgestone is armed with the evidence to prove their case.

During testing of numerous compounds for a new golf ball core, Bridgestone engineers discovered that one of the prototypes - with water in its core formulation - produced 30% more gradation. Translation: greater spin reduction producing longer distances and improved accuracy.

The new B330-RX and B330-RXS golf balls have a 3-piece urethane cover and utilize Bridgestone's 330 Dual Dimple Technology. The inner dimple helps get the ball up quickly on tee shots and hold its trajectory longer. The outer dimple produces a more shallow descent angle, increasing the amount of roll in the fairway and thus, more yards. The B330-RX is designed for players who prefer distance while the B330-RXS is targeted at those seeking maximum greenside spin.

You'll find the new Bridgestone Tour B330-RX and Tour B330-RXS balls at all major golf retailers - both brick-and-mortar and online. Price range from $37.99 - $44.99 per dozen. The Tour B330-RX is available in both traditional white and Optic Yellow.

For more information on the new lineup of Tour B330 balls or any other Bridgestone golf product that may have peaked your interest, visit their website at www.bridgestonegolf.com. Give them bot a try and see which one fits you best.

For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
