Cape Club of Palm City Captivating Golfers
The Crown Jewel of the Treasure Coast
By Dave Daubert
The Cape Club in Palm City, Florida recently opened after a summer-long golf and clubhouse enhancement effort that flipped what was the public Fox Club, redesigned by Darren Clarke and O'Connell, into a private club that is getting the attention of golf's top stars, brands, and celebrities.
In 2022, I wrote a story about the Cape Clubs of Falmouth & Sharon, Massachusetts ownership purchase of the Fox Club of Palm City in May and immediately shutting it down to undergo a massive and tenacious renovation project on the 18 hole golf course and 16,500 square foot clubhouse. What some thought would take two years was completed by the new owners in five months. In November of 2022, the new private club was unveiled with new agronomic conditioning, new bunkers (complete with the addition of brilliant "Augusta-white sand-a Cape Club Collection signature feature), new landscaping throughout the course, and around the completely renovated clubhouse, new coquina cart paths, new carts, and a revamped culinary offering.
Membership sales got off to a brisk selling pace with many players in the area loving the club's special "no tee time policy" whereby members do not have to make a tee time. Just roll up and tee it up whenever they want. That combined with a limited membership count arguably offers The Best exclusive membership with a mere $25,000 initiation fee in the region- a welcome reprieve from the expensive private clubs in Palm Beach, Broward & Dade counties where members are fighting for high-demand tee times. A neat addition to the membership is the reciprocal benefits throughout the Cape Club Collection whereby members have access to both sister clubs- Cape Clubs of Sharon and Falmouth, Massachusetts.
Not only did some new members take notice of the lovely appointed Cape Club, but Bridgestone Golf saw an opportunity to showcase their professionals in content curation and commercial shoots for their new 2023 lineup of golf balls in December. Tiger Woods, Fred Couples, Jason Day, Matt Kuchar and Lexi Thompson all got to savor the impressive Cape Club putting surfaces and fairways. Then in January, actor and producer Mark Wahlberg stopped by to check out the club. The layout provides an exclusive Florida golf experience through expanded corridors with plenty of water in play. Shortly thereafter songwriter/celeb DJ Khaled dropped a cool Instagram post to his 32 million followers about the Cape Club of Palm City. And of course, not to be outdone, I and a few writers joined potential members to play the course for the first time. What a joy and challenging layout!
Best of all it is getting the attention of members that are making Cape Club their home course...
along with enjoying great golf, amazing culinary offerings, exceptional practice facilities, cool vibes and more. Yes, there is more. The owners plan on building two and four-bedroom cabins along the par 5 ninth hole within a short walking distance of the clubhouse for members' guests and wedding parties.
