Hoffman Companies Continue South Florida Expansion with Acquisition of Old Corkscrew Golf Club
By Brian Weis
The same company that just purchased the exclusive Old Collier Golf Club in Naples, Florida with its Tom Fazio designed championship golf course has now acquired Old Corkscrew Golf Club, another private facility in nearby Estero with a 7,400 yard Jack Nicklaus Signature designed golf course which is a certified Audubon International Silver Signature Sanctuary. Originally developed as "The Retreat" before the economic downturn ended its completion, the club was revitalized and the name changed to Old Corkscrew.
"It's a great addition to our golf portfolio and a beautiful course," says David Hoffman. "The undulating greens are known to be fast-paced and challenging. It truly is one of the best courses on the Paradise Coast."
The move comes on the heels of the family owned Hoffman Company, which operates 36 companies and employs 2,500 in Florida with a majority in Southwest Florida, and has over 240 total operations worldwide with over 6,000 employees, announcing that it is building a 12-hole, Rees Jones designed championship golf course as part of developing a destination resort in the vineyard rich quiet town of Augusta, Missouri.
Other acquisitions made by Hoffman in the Naples/Ft. Myers area have included the Hertz Arena, the Florida Everblades hockey team, Naples Princess Cruises, and Naples Transportation & Tours.
"We are thrilled that David Hoffman will be the new owner of Old Corkscrew Golf Club," commented Phil Anderson, former Old Corkscrew majority owner. " He has a successful history of buying great assets and taking them to the next level. We appreciate David's commitment to and investment in Southwest Florida and look forward to Old Corkscrew joining the Hoffman Group of Companies."
Hoffman has named Iain Mossman, a former South Florida PGA Section Professional of the Year, as President of the Hoffman National Golf Division. Iain worked at Pelican's Nest in Bonita Springs and Gateway Golf Club in Ft. Myers before taking over as General Manager at Old Collier in 2007. He recently left to oversee construction and management of Aurora International Golf Club in the Caribbean for nine months.
David Hoffman added, "I've known Iain for many years. He is well respected by the members and the Naples community, and will do a phenomenal job in the national position overseeing our golf courses." Mossman will focus on development, operations, staffing, food and beverage, and membership programs.
"I'm honored to be joining the Hoffman Family of Companies and excited about their vision for the Golf Division," said Mossman. "The Hoffman owned golf clubs are outstanding and the best on the Paradise Coast.
