Morocco Pro Am - FAQ About The Golf Event

Morocco Pro Am - FAQ About The Golf Event

By Brian Weis

Q: Nick - Tell me about the Morocco Pro Am.
A. The Morocco Pro Am is an annual Pro - Am golf tournament held in Marrakech, Morocco. The 2023 event will be the 2nd annual held on October, 25-29.

Q: When will this year's event be held and what is the Host Hotel?
A: This year's event will be held on October 25-29, 2023 and we will once again be staying at the Sofitel Marrakech, The contemporary 5-star Sofitel Marrakech Lounge and Spa is a quiet, sumptuous space in the middle of a gorgeous garden overlooking the Atlas Mountains. Rejuvenate your body and mind in this luxurious haven just steps from the Medina. Offering comfortable rooms and spacious suites, this beautiful property promises moments of relaxation in the outdoor pools, spa, fitness room, gourmet restaurants and bars. Just a 15 minutes' walk from Koutoubia and Jemaa el-Fna Square, enjoy a charming and relaxing stay in the city center in the chic and modern Hivernage District. The Sofitel Marrakech is just a 15 minute drive from Marrakech Ménara airport. In addition, the hotel is near the Medina and its souks, Bahia Palace, Koutoubia, Jemaa el-Fna Square, Medersa Ben Youssef, and the Ménara Garden.
Q: What courses do you play?

A: We play three of the finest courses in Marrakech: Samanah, Assoufid, and Royal Golf du Marrakech.
Q: If I want to participate as an amateur player in the event, how does the process work?
A. Well first of all, all of the event information is listed on our website: www.moroccoproam.com Each team consists of one PGA of America Golf Professional (or similar) and 3 paid amateur players. Typically, the Golf Pro is the Head Golf Pro of a local country club who invites 3 of his/her members and they travel together to compete against other teams from all around North America and Europe. Spouses, Friends, and Guests are all welcome too - even if they don't play in the event!

Q: What if I am a single amateur and don't have a full team?
A: Each year we allow a limited number of single amateur players to participate. If someone wants to participate, but doesn't have a full team, they can send me an email: nick@moroccoproam.com and we will do our best to pair them up on a team.

Q: How many teams typically participate in your event?
A: As this is the 2nd year of the Morocco Pro Am - we anticipate having 10-20 golf teams and their friends, family, and significant others in attendance in 2023. As we continue to grow the event in future years, our goal is to have 40 golf teams and their friends, family and significant others in attendance - we can even go up to 60 teams. We play three different golf courses that are all in close proximity to the Sofitel Marrakech, so all the golfers and their guests can experience three different courses and facilities which are all unique in the own way.

Q: What makes your event different than other Pro-Am's that exist around North America and elsewhere?
A: That's another great question. There are obviously many great events out there, but we know hospitality and customer service like no other because we do this for a living and have been running golf tournaments for over 20 years in multiple Countries and on different Continents. The Moroccan National Tourist Organization who is one of our primary sponsors is comprised of some of the greatest Tourism and Hospitality executives in the World and they know how to do it right.

Q: Where can golfers get more information?
A: Thank you so much for including us on your site and for helping us promote the Morocco Pro Am . We can't wait to welcome everyone to Marrakech on October, 25-29, 2023. Again the website has all the details: www.moroccoproam.com.

About: Brian Weis

Brian Weis Brian Weis is the mastermind behind GolfTrips.com, a vast network of golf travel and directory sites covering everything from the rolling fairways of Wisconsin to the sunbaked desert layouts of Arizona. If there’s a golf destination worth visiting, chances are, Brian has written about it, played it, or at the very least, found a way to justify a "business trip" there.

As a card-carrying member of the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA), International Network of Golf (ING), Golf Travel Writers of America (GTWA), International Golf Travel Writers Association (IGTWA), and The Society of Hickory Golfers (SoHG), Brian has the credentials to prove that talking about golf is his full-time job. In 2016, his peers even handed him The Shaheen Cup, a prestigious award in golf travel writing—essentially the Masters green jacket for guys who don’t hit the range but still know where the best 19th holes are.

Brian’s love for golf goes way back. As a kid, he competed in junior and high school golf, only to realize that his dreams of a college golf scholarship had about the same odds as a 30-handicap making a hole-in-one. Instead, he took the more practical route—working on the West Bend Country Club grounds crew to fund his University of Wisconsin education. Little did he know that mowing greens and fixing divots would one day lead to a career writing about the best courses on the planet.

In 2004, Brian turned his golf passion into a business, launching GolfWisconsin.com. Three years later, he expanded his vision, and GolfTrips.com was born—a one-stop shop for golf travel junkies looking for their next tee time. Today, his empire spans all 50 states, and 20+ international destinations.

On the course, Brian is a weekend warrior who oscillates between a 5 and 9 handicap, depending on how much he's been traveling (or how generous he’s feeling with his scorecard). His signature move" A high, soft fade that his playing partners affectionately (or not-so-affectionately) call "The Weis Slice." But when he catches one clean, his 300+ yard drives remind everyone that while he may write about golf for a living, he can still send a ball into the next zip code with the best of them.

Whether he’s hunting down the best public courses, digging up hidden gems, or simply outdriving his buddies, Brian Weis is living proof that golf is more than a game—it’s a way of life.
