Tiburon Golf Club in Naples Hosts 2nd Professional Tournament in Three Week Span
By Dave Daubert
Once again, Naples, Florida is the site of another professional golf tournament. The QBE Shootout hosted by Hall of Famer Greg Norman was contested on the magnificent Tiburon Golf Club. Just three weeks ago the LPGA CME Group Championship was played on the Greg Norman-designed "Gold" course at Tiburon with South Korea's Jin Young Ko taking home a $1.5 million bonus for being the #1 LPGA golfer in the world.
The QBE Shootout that was once called the 'Shark Shootout' for many years will feature some of the best players in the world competing in a 2-person team format including last year's champions Harris English and Matt Kuchar. Once again Lexi Thompson will take center stage partnering with Bubba Watson, along with notables Jason Day, Ian Poulter, Graeme McDowell, and newcomers Jason Kokrak and Sam Burns.
Then in 2022, The PGA Tour Champions will celebrate the 35th playing of the Chubb Classic presented by SERVPRO on the Norman-designed "Black" course at Tiburon Golf Club February 14-20. The Chubb has been part of the fabric of the Paradise Coast for all these years, allowing the touring professionals an outstanding venue to play and also the welcoming residents and fans of the surrounding area of Naples, Marco Island and the Everglades in Southwest Florida.
The three professional tours have decided playing at the Troon managed Tiburon Golf Club as the ideal location for pristine conditions, a wealth of expertise on how to successfully operate a professional golf tournament, and the resources to make it all come together for the benefit of the viewing public, volunteers, media and the golfers.
Players enjoy unique stacked-sod wall bunkers, coquina shell waste areas and the absence of conventional rough. Following Norman's philosophy of maximizing the natural allure of the land, each element has been carefully integrated to produce a pleasing atmosphere in which to appreciate the finer aspects of the game. Designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by Audubon International, Tiburon, which means Shark in Spanish, strives to protect and enhance its natural surroundings while producing pristine layouts. It is consistently ranked among the top 20 golf facilities in Florida by both Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine. For more information please visit TiburonNaples.com.
Florida's Paradise Coast is a natural and cultural gem tucked away in the southwest corner of the state where the Gulf of Mexico's sparkling gentle waters meet the powdery white sand beaches, wild and breezy islands, and chic downtowns filled with culinary delights, sophisticated shopping, artful treasures and countless other discoveries. During the winter season, there is an abundance of cultural events to enjoy the many museums, the Naples Philharmonic, Botanical Gardens and the newly completed Paradise Coast Sports Complex. Please visit ParadiseCoast.com for more information.
With over 90 golf courses, Collier County has more golf facilities per capita than any county in the country. In the winter season when the snowbirds return, golf is the #1 recreational activity. With comfortable weather all season long, Paradise Coast golfers hit the links and enjoy multiple planned games at the private and over 30 public golf courses throughout the area. There are plenty of golf clubs to meet your financial and social comfort level, while the rest of the world hunkers down for the winter. Naples prides itself on being the "Golf Capital of the World."
I enjoyed a new hotel in Naples while visiting the golf tournaments. The Innovation Hotel is located about three miles east of I-75 about one block south of Immokalee Road off of Creekside Drive. Inspired by a culture of uncompromising quality, Innovation Hotel utilizes Synexis microbial reduction technology that creates a safe level of hydrogen peroxide gas, which allows for the natural and continuous reduction of microbial contamination in occupied spaces, minimizing the presence of viruses, bacteria and mold in the air and on surfaces.
The immaculate four-story hotel has 169 well-appointed rooms along with 48 adjoining parlors, 9 meeting rooms comprising a total of 17,580 square feet, a cinema theater off the lobby, plus three dining & bar facilities. The expansive 20,000 square foot health and fitness center spans two floors with state-of-the-art equipment to cover every possible exercise regiment. Across from the hotel is an event lawn as well as basketball, pickleball and tennis courts, and sports fields. Staying at Innovation is a step up from anything you have ever experienced.
