Description

The Reiter family has been involved in golf in South Dakota for over 50 years. Gene Reiter started in the golf business on the grounds crew at Minnehaha Country Club, the premier golf course in the state, back in the early 1950's. He took over as the grounds superintendent in 1956, and held that position until his retirement 35 years later in 1992. Gene played an important role in the development of the South Dakota Golf Course Superintendent's Association in the 1980's, as a member of the founding board of directors, becoming its first President in 1991. This organization has played a pivotal role in the development and improved playing conditions of all golf courses in the state and surrounding areas. Gene and son, Jim, were also involved in the building of many golf courses in the area including Parker, Lennox, Tyndall, Platte, Parkston, Dell Rapids, Colman, the original nine holes at Hartford, the 2nd nine holes at the Brooking Country Club, and the Madison Country Club.
