Description
Metropolis Country Club was established in 1922. The original 18 hole golf course, designed by Herbert Strong, was later expanded when the noted golf architect A. W. Tillinghast redesigned the course, adding the current 7th, 12th, 13th and 14th holes. In the early 1970s, architect Joe Finger reconfigured the 15th and 16th holes to accommodate some badly needed additional parking areas, and during 1998 and 1999 Joe Fingers partner, Ken Dye, updated the course once again, lengthening the course to its current 6784 yards.
The original clubhouse had been the home of the family that previously owned the land on which Metropolis is located. It was an elegant house overlooking what is now our pool and practice area. That clubhouse was destroyed by a fire about 40 years ago and rebuilt shortly thereafter. The current clubhouse was completely renovated and redesigned, with a grand reopening held on Memorial Day weekend in 2004.
