Description
The Monticello Golf Club at Savannah Lakes Village is the second of two lakefront golf courses within the 4,000-acre community. The golf course (named after Thomas Jefferson's estate) was completed in 2000. The layout is a modern links course with fewer trees and lots of water.
Monticello is 7032 yards from the championship tees and features bent grass greens, zoysia collars, and bermuda fairways/rough. Water comes into play on 9 of the 18 holes, which includes a dramatic lakefront peninsula midway through the front nine.
Monticello was nationally ranked as a top ten new course by Golf Digest in 2000, and Monticello's 5th hole was named one of the "18 Most Spectacular" holes in the Carolinas, by Carolina Living magazine (2005). The Savannah Lakes Community has also been ranked by the National Active Retirement Association as being among the "50 Top Golf Communities (2004)," named one of "Ten Great Affordable Golf Communities (2005)," and The Best Overall Active Adult Community (2007).
