Golf Course Review: Sand Greens
Sand Greens--a course from out of the past!
I played Yellow Lake about three years ago, and had a great time. "It is what it is", and there aren't many like it. The only sand greens course still existing in Wisconsin, and none in Minnesota. You have to be able to hit a chip and run approach shot, but expect some monster drives (no evidence of a watering system). Most of the folks playing came from the summer resorts and trailer camping areas nearby, and many drove over in their personal golf carts. Staff and patrons were friendly and accomodating. Very inexpensive (something like $7 daily weekday to walk), and prices in the modest clubhouse also very favorable. Don't expect plush fairways or tee boxes, but do expect to play a fun round on a course that hasn't changed a lot since it was built 80 years ago.
