Golf Course Review: Big Oaks Golf Course
Open all year! (Winter Golf)
First a couple disclaimers . . . I am a complete beginner golfer (just started last year), and . . . I have thus far only played this course one time, in winter (Feb, 2012). So, that said, I was quite pleased with this course. There are actually 27-holes (3 9-hole courses) to pick from: South, East, & North. While South-to-East is the 'default' 18, I played South-to-North. A very small creek wanders through much of the course, and ponds play into a couple of holes, notably #9 on both South and North. The pond (the same pond for both 9's, dammed up on the creek) is immediately short of the green, which is elevated, with a steep bank to the pond, thus collecting LOTS of shots which come up short. A good variety of challenge (with doglegs, blind greens (hill in middle of long fairway), and the creek and ponds) make a quite scenic course. Even playing in winter, it seemed apparent the course and greens are well maintained. The clubhouse was undergoing major renovation, which also seems to indicate they are not just coasting and letting things go. There is a large (many hitting stations) driving range, as well as a good-sized putting green for practice. I am not going to represent that this will rival any championship course or private country club, but it is a fine course I will definitely look forward to playing in summer.
