Golf Course Review: Fyre Lake Golf Club
Good Design
This course has potential but the conditions are currently below standard for the price. There were money problems the last few years and there is a new owner. Assuming the condition of the course improves this will be one of the best courses in Illinois.
Currently the greens are very slow and not very smooth. The grass in the fairways needs to grow so the conditions are more consistent.
Some of the longest/thickest grass on the course is 2 feet off the green. It is not pleasant being penalized more for being close to the green.
The design is great. There are a few memorable holes. There is a par 4 hole with an island green. The 18th hole is a dogleg left around a pond. There is an uphill par three surrounded by traps.
There is a temporary clubhouse but the only food is chips and candy bars.
There is no parking lot so if it is a busy day it could be a long walk to the clubhouse. Maybe drop your partner off to get a cart so they can pick you up.
The course is not designed for walking. For instance between the 16 and 17th holes is probably 1/4 mile.

Based on my experience: I would play the course again.
