Definitely a top course in Maine, as spectacular as it gets
I've been lucky enough to play several courses on Golf Digest's top 100 and Sunday River is about as spectacular as any of them in terms of the views. Mountains and downhill shots are everywhere making for many memorable holes. We played the last week they were open in October for a reduced rate which was a bargain - maybe the best time of year to play with the colors. It was a winding 2+hour drive from the heart of Portland but well worth it. I would definitely make the trip again.
