Golf Course Review: LochenHeath Golf Club
Amazing Course - Beautiful Setting
The golf course is staging to go private in the next few years and I had the opportunity to play the course as a guest of Kevin O'Brien, General Manager.
A few years ago a few members bought the golf club out of bankruptcy and revitalized one of the most beautiful golf courses on the Lake Michigan's shoreline.
Before the round our group grabbed a bite to eat! My mouth is watering again thinking about the perch bites and other pre-round appetizers. The jalapeno chicken sandwich is a two thumbs up! Kevin shared the members rave about their menu and I echo their praise!
If you are playing the course for the first time, it is strongly recommended to play with a caddie. At very least grab a yardage book for tips on playing each hole. Insider information will save you 5-8 strokes as the speedy greens have some humps, bumps and backstops.
Floridian architect, Steve Smyers built a course that is generous off the tee but demanding with approach shots. Distance control and direction is how you attack Lochenheath. An errant shot will have balls rolling off the green to collection areas and not being on the right level might card a few 3 putts.
My favorite hole was hole #6 - a tight drivable par 4. A great risk vs reward hole that offers a birdie opportunity plus views of Lake Michigan. In retrospect, I think all 18 are really special. A must play while in the Traverse City area. (and a must join if you vacation in the area regularly)

Based on my experience: I would play the course again.
