Tom Watson Lessons of A Lifetime II
20 New Lessons - Teaching at Its Best
By John Ehle
Tom Watson may have missed his calling when he spent a lifetime becoming one of the finest professional golfers of all time. With eight majors on his 50 year resume', his knowledge of the game is without question among the most extensive of all living players.
It is our good fortune that he has chosen to work with Terry Jastrow in creating his instructional series. The combination of Watson's rich body of knowledge and Jastrow's technical expertise provides students of the game with a perfect vehicle with which to explore the deeper nuances of teaching/learning golf. One on one instruction is perfect if the student has the time and resources but to have an extensive library to access at any time is convenient both economically and in terms of the teaching/learning process.
Tom Watson is a natural-born teacher. Granted, he is scripted and knowledgeable but he is able to take lessons beyond the context of most instruction. Disc 3 takes the topics from the first series deep into golf lore and Watson is generous with his attributions. When he says "Jack Nicklaus says........." he draws on a 50 year relationship; a hallmark of this gentleman's game; sharing insights with each other.
I've found that taking my laptop to the range is an effective way to learn from Watson's treasure trove of knowledge. It allows me to set my own pace and try out the techniques which this wonderful teacher offers.
Lessons of a Lifetime will add skill and pleasure to your pursuit of better golf. Find out for yourself. It won't break the bank either!
